Discover a fascinating piece of mining history concerning the Andavakorea gold mines in Madagascar
The Andavakoera gold mines, discovered in 1905 in northern Madagascar, sparked a veritable gold rush. Between 1906 and 1909, they produced more than three tonnes of gold, attracting many adventurers and leading to the creation of the Andavakoera Gold Mining Company in 1911. Despite the installation of modern facilities (railway, steam hammers, electricity), the veins proved to be irregular and poor, making mining unprofitable. After a few years of hope and massive investment, the venture quickly declined, leaving posterity with the image of a fleeting gold dream.
